Ramsar Convention

•The Ramsar Convention, formerly known as the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, is an international environmental treaty adopted in 1971 in Ramsar, Iran. It is the only global treaty specifically focused on the protection of wetland ecosystems.
•The mission of the Convention is to promote the conservation and wise use of wetlands through local, regional and national action combined with international cooperation. Member States agree to conserve the natural character of the wetlands of international importance.
•To accede to the Convention, every country has to identify at least one wetland in its territory to be included in the list of Wetlands of International Importance. These sites are chosen according to criteria like ecological, botanical, zoological, limnological and hydrological importance,the Convention provides an international framework to support national actions for the wetland conservation and resource use. Issues of biodiversity, climate change and sustainable development for adaptation are covered within the scope.
Kappatagudda Hills
•Kappatagudda Hills is in the Gadag district of Karnataka. It is generally known as a part of North-Western Ghats of Karnataka. These hills are rich in medicinal plants and considered to be an important ecological area of โโthe region.
• The region is known for its unique biodiversity with over 400 species of medicinal plants and rare herbs. It has been nicknamed the "Medicinal Cup of Karnataka" due to its important role in traditional medicine and Ayurvedic practices.
•The Karnataka Government has declared the Kappatagudda Hills a protected area for their rich biodiversity and ecological importance in 2017. The area protected is around 17,000 hectares,the hills also have a great cultural significance, with various temples and religious places. Several communities who traditionally gather medicinal plants and offer traditional healing practice reside here.
Samman Sanjeevani App
• Samman Sanjeevani app is an online learning platform developed by the Government of India to improve the skills of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy) health workers to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
• The application includes extensive training programs and certification classes tailored specifically to AYUSH practitioners, on how they can act as preventives, treat, and control the COVID-19 virus using different traditional medical systems.
• The application acts as an e-training medium that comprises diverse educational materials, video conferencing, and testing modules so that the Ayush Practitioner can understand the protocols and commands for management of COVID-19 under each traditional medicinal system.
